15kWp – Apartment blocks

Objective
To achieve CSH level 3 using on-site renewables across three apartment blocks

Specific design issues
1.The timber roof structure was not capable of taking the load of a standard PV module system.
2.Only one block had a 3 phase supply while another had sufficient space for the inverters.

Solution
1.Axter’s Amorphous Silicon thin film modules were selected because they are lightweight and reduce builders works. As part of the bitumen roof membrane the modules were installed flush and flat on the roof.
2.South Facing installed all the inverters in one plant room and connected them to the Distribution board in the adjacent block

213 x Axter 68Watt Amorphous Silicon modules
Inverters – 3x Mastervolt XS3200 and 1x Mastervolt XS2000 and Fronius IG plus 35
Total System Output 15kwp

Result
The system generates a steady income fro the housing association. The Unisolar modules are ideal for flat or unfavorable pitches where there may be shading and having no glass content are durable enough that they can be walked on.
