80kWp New Build Social Housing

Objective
As a Housing Association redevelopment, this large rundown housing estate that had suffered from years of vandalism and anti social behavior, had to comply with Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3. In the battle against fuel poverty -installing Solar PV will also help reduce energy costs for tenants. In addition to resolving design, structural and complex planning issues, South Facing also successfully helped the Housing Association to obtain 50% funding from the Low Carbon Building Programme.

Solution
South Facing was awarded the contract to provide Solar  PV systems for Phase 1 and 2. The 33 houses and 18 apartments on phase 1.
The mix of 2&3 bed detached terraced houses, each require around 1kWp of PV. The 2 apartment blocks each require a 4.2kWp system – making a site total of over 80kWp.

Result
The combined solar PV roofing  system provides an annual C02 saving of more than 55 tonnes with each house’s tenant saving 25 – 30% on electricity bills.
