Mile Oak School

Mile Oak School is benefiting from over 8,000kWh of free electricity a year direct from it’s 9kWp roof mounted Solar PV array – installed by South Facing in Summer 08. Its sunny coastal location will help uplift performance and reduce the school’s carbon footprint and save the school around £1,000 per year on its electricity bill.

‘As electricity becomes more expensive this investment looks better and better’

Neil Fulcher the school’s Eco Coordinator and driving force behind the project, secured both a Low Carbon Building Programme grant and match funding from EDF – costing the school nothing. The children monitor the system output thanks to a display in the reception and learn about the power of the sun and sustainability all at once.

System details
Modules – 4x strings of 14 162 Watt modules
Inverters – 2x Fronius IG40’s
Total System Output 9.072kWp

Result
Over the period of operation this system has generated an average of 1050kWh/kWp/year
It also contributes an annual CO2 saving of more than 4tonnes. This Solar PV roofing for schools  provides both a cost saving and increases education awareness of carbon saving and soalr PV to all their pupils.
