Tariff bands for PV electricity
The FIT review will reduce tariffs from 12th December 2011 for all tariff bands except for the 250-5MW banding which stays at 8.5p/kWh However post December 12th tariffs still offer 10%+ returns to PV system owners. Please click here to see the returns table The right hand column of this table shows the new tariff levels from 12th December 2011 to 31st March 2012. There are 3 ways to benefit from the Feed-in Tariff:
- Fixed payments from the electricity supplier for every kilowatt hour (kWh)* of electricity generated from your PV system. The electricity generated is metered and you will be paid the prevailing tariff. See above These payments are index linked for 25 years.
- From payments for every kWh exported to the grid. PV Generators will be guaranteed a long-term 3pence per kWh or they may choose to negotiate a price for exported electricity in the open market.
- In addition, you can use the electricity you generate to offset some or all of the electricity they would otherwise have had to buy. (Typically 12-15p per kWh at today’s prices) It is important to note that these savings will increase as the market price for electricity increases over the 25year term.
Plus if you are a commercial landlord and can sell the electricity on to other users, and make additional income. Did you know...Feed-in Tariff payments are made independently of your existing electricity supplier. So you can claim them from any supplier, whether or not they are your existing supplier. Payments and the export payments are paid on a quarterly basis.
‘Kilowatt hours’ are the standard units of electricity measurement. A kilowatt hour represents the use of 1000Watts constantly, for an hour. For instance – ten x 100Watt bulbs all lit for an hour – will consume one kilowatt hour.
